Allow me to offer context on this cap.
Here’s our heroine: 100% introvert. She’s friendly, likes people and wants friends. She’s socially awkward, as many introverts can be. Social interactions can be hard for her. So, she’s at this new school, new frends, a couple weeks to adjust and get to know people, and people are friendly so they made a bit of small talk before school. And, because our heroine is one of the most honestly portrayed introverts I’ve ever seen or read in anime or manga, this is a big deal to her. That look on her face is one of determination—she is making a conscious choice to make a real effort to do the social thing because she appreciates the significance of it, possibly more than the girls she’s talking to do.
And this is why I love the heroine. Because panels like this exist. Because the guy who’s awkward around girls isn’t a jackass, or forced into estrogen-rich atmospheres, or drawn to reform his wayward being, or anything like that. He’s just bad with girls, and this introvert has some trouble picking up cues, so she’s just being his friend.
God. This series. How is it possible for you to be so good. I love you.
